I am always puzzled by the fact that eastward flight takes much shorter time than westward flight. Yesterday I tried very hard to search the answer thru internet but in vain. Most people cited rotation of the Earth but it is not true.

今天综合了网上的资料，向东飞比向西飞要快的原因是：
在地球的上空, 到了某个高度, 有一股气流, 叫Prevailing Westerlies, 永远由西吹向东,绕着地球。 所以飞机向东飞总是比向西飞的时间短. Prevailing Westerlies 在南北纬度30到60度尤其明显 （以40至50度最厉害），而且气流速度又以南半球比北半球更高。
